Taiwanese chicken and rice 施福建好吃雞肉

This "restaurant" will really make you question what a restaurant is. It's not exactly a food stand, because it's in its own little alcove, with seats and air conditioning and fans. It also sells exactly three things--rice, chicken, and clear soup. Even though it's a questionable place, I can't deny that everything is delicious.

You can get plain white rice, or you can get it with a mixture of soy sauce and chicken fat (relax, PETA, we eat the entire chicken). The sauce is really thick and savory--not just salty--and it comes on the chicken too. The chicken is just boiled, but it's really tender. And the soup comes from boiling chicken offal (the organs and other "unwanted" parts) and various Chinese herbs. It's so fragrant and a little bit bitter, which is surprisingly refreshing for summer.

These three things are really all that they sell, so there's not much to tell about this place. But I think it's notable that everything is super cheap. The soup is free, the rice is 10NT (about 30 cents)  per bowl, and the chicken is 50NT (about $1.50) per person.

I must admit, this place is not for everyone--it's not the most pleasant dining experience, but it is an adventure. Come here if you want a truly ratchet experience.
